Supporting the Director of Strategic Operations (DSO) in creating a management reporting structure for evaluating the market, the courses that the University offers and key performance indicators. Working as part of a team on statutory data returns to HESA and HESES, the role will also include benchmarking the universities outputs with institutions within the university peer group.

The role will involve providing the provision of professional services to support the universities planning processes and managing its resources, in a controlled and sustainable manner. It has a key role to play in strategic planning to support University decision making processes and is responsible for the production and co-ordination of statutory returns to external agencies including HEFCE and HESA.

The Role
This post presents an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, numerate team-player, with good analytical and communication skills, to make a significant contribution to the universities ongoing and future success. The role will support the areas of Planning, Corporate Governance and Change.
You will play a significant part in supporting strategic planning processes, provision and understanding of key performance indicators and in management information reporting. Working as part of the Strategic Operations Office, and with other colleagues, you will help ensure the relevance and quality of information and the reliability of statutory data returns (including the Key Information Set). As you will be the contact internally as well as for partner colleges you will use your communication and interpersonal skills to nurture productive and effective working relationships to enable the transfer of information for mutually beneficial purposes.

You will have a significant input to core information analysis and data management functions, and management information review, helping to ensure high quality monitoring and reporting for internal decision making, and for external purposes. You will also be responsible for reporting to senior management, faculties and to University wide committees.

You will apply your understanding of the Higher Education Sector to University developments and will play an important role in supporting the achievement of objectives within the scope of the role. This is a varied role which involves liaison with departments, faculties and with staff from other parts of the universities professional services. You will play a key role in supporting cross-functional projects and this involve working in liaison with Faculties and Departments as well as working closely with colleagues in other professional services, especially the Registry Section.


Experience

• Experience of preparing and compiling HE Statutory returns
• Proven experience of working effectively with external bodies and of developing and nurturing effective working relationships
• Experience of database organization, management and interrogation including the use of relational databases and the creation of queries and reports
• Proven project management skills with the ability to implement effectively in the workplace whilst dealing with multiple priorities
• Experience and proficiency in the use of Microsoft tools, including Excel, Word and Office and the use of email and the internet
• An understanding of the funding mechanism for Higher Education and of the wider issues currently facing Higher Educations
• Knowledge of HEI database systems and how to access records
• Experience of working with key stakeholders and producing quality documentation for senior staff
• Knowledge of reporting packages such as MS Reporting Services, Access or Crystal Reports
