Behaviour Mentors - Leeds

I am working with secondary schools in West & North Leeds who are currently recruiting for Behaviour Mentors starting in January 2020 or sooner.  They are looking for individuals who are resilient, confident and enjoy working with children who have Challenging Behaviour. You must be able to inspire students to succeed despite their barriers to learning. You must have a patient and positive outlook and the willingness to adapt to different situations. Opportunities within KS3, KS4 & KS5 are available.

Behaviour Mentor Specification:

•Degree in relevant child related field
•Previous experience working with SEN, Challenging behaviour, Youth offending, Youth Work or sports coaching
•Strong GCSE results English and Maths - good background subject knowledge
•Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and emphatic listening skills
•Excellent oral and written communication skills

A Behaviour Mentor works on supporting student behaviour and learning inside and outside of the class. This is predominantly a class-based position; however, you may have to deliver 1:1 intervention sessions at some stage in order to maintain the progress of student behaviour and learning, so you must be capable when working independently.

A Behaviour Mentor has a tailored intervention role that has been designed to help pupils with behavioural problems to reach their full potential and is extremely beneficial in supporting the mainstream and SEN primary school we work closely with. As a behaviour mentor, you will be providing help to the class teacher with challenging students to aid them in overcoming any behavioural issues, whilst acting as a role model. If you can think quickly on your feet and stay calm whilst dealing with challenging situations, this is a perfect opportunity for you to gain vital school experience in order to help make suitable decisions or further your career in education!
