Makaton Trained Tutor - Wakefield - Immediate start

Protocol Education are proud to be working closely with an independent specialist day school for boys and girls aged from 5 to 19. The setting deals with a wide range of needs across 3 sites in Wakefield and have exciting plans to expand. Their dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life.

As this setting is continuing to grow, we have an opportunity for the right candidate to join this dedicated and hard-working team. Your main responsibilities would be to provide support to their SEND pupils with learning difficulties, behavioural, social and physical disabilities. You will work closely to help support a student who needs tutoring with a particular emphasis on Makaton, therefore a knowledge or working experience in this area is required. You may have supported learners with Makaton in an educational setting tutoring or as a learning mentor. You may have also spent many years working with children who use Makaton to communicate.

We are looking for a Makaton specialist who is proactive and are adaptable enough to meet the complex needs and challenges faced by supporting children in this setting and tutoring in their own home. We do look for previous experience supporting learning in a SEND environment, although the right attitude is just as important for you to be successful in this role.

To be successful in the role we would expect the following

•Experience of working with young people who present with complex or challenging behaviours.
•Using Makaton regularly and the ability to train others to use this
•Have experience of using IT effectively such as the basic Microsoft suite
•Strictly adhere to the codes of Practice / Legislation on Safeguarding and Child Protection

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
