Protocol Education are currently working with an Excellent SEND School in Golders Green, located in the borough of Barnet

They are looking for an experienced Special Needs LSA to work support their students through the academic year.

About the school:

This Special Needs School is an all through school and ages range from 4 - 19 years of age.

They have 35 students and they are divided into six classes. 1 class is an Early Years class (EYFS) and the remaining 5 classes are from Key stage 2 - Key stage 5. The classes are named in colours e.g. Purple class, Pink Class, Orange class etc.

Each class have special needs mixed together; so, for example one class will have students with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) mixed with students who required English as an additional language (EAL).

The Early Years class (Orange Class) consists of one student with Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and 1 child with Autism (ASC). The Yellow class has 4 students and consists of students with MLD, Hearing impairment and 1 EAL student.
There is a sensory room located on the 2nd floor of the school. There is also a purpose-built library and a room designed for therapy where the school employs a music therapist to work with the students.

Part of your role will involve taking your student(s) shopping and accompanying them to activities such as swimming, ice skating and horse riding. The purpose of these activities and tasks is to encourage independent living.

Each class has a qualified SEND Teacher and is supported with a minimum of 2 Teaching Assistants.

They will be moving to a purpose built school in September 2020 and this will result in an increase in student capacity.

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have Special Needs and Disability (SEND) experience within a school setting.

Experience of Makaton (sign language with speech) is good but not essential.

Transferable experience and skills from Previous experience within a child care setting, support or Carer's role is desirable.

This role will require Learning Support Assistants to help with personal care.
Salary and Benefits:

-Send LSA role pays £60 per day.
-School opening hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm
-On most day; you will finished between 4pm and 4:30pm.
-You will need to have an enhanced DBS on the update service and ID before entering the school premises.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
