Protocol Education are currently working with a Special Needs school based in Brent, who are looking for an LSA specialising in Challenging Behaviour/Autism. The position will be based within the further education unit in a small class supporting students with Emotional & Behavioural Disorders and Social, Emotional & Mental Health problems.
Job Title: Learning Support Assistant (Behaviour department)
Salary: £10 per hour (£65 per day)
Time: 8:45am - 3:45pm (6.5 hours)
Location: Brent (Kingsbury and close to Colindale Station on the Northern Line)

Protocol Education are working with a well-known SEND school in the borough of Brent, located in Kingsbury. This is a large Special Needs School with over 200 students from Early years through to Secondary School. (EYFS to KS4).

They are currently looking for 2 Learning Support Assistants to work in their behaviour department.

About the role:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll be supporting students with severe autism and challenging behaviours.

Many of the students in this class are non-verbal and communicate using PECS (Picture exchange communication system) and/or Makaton (basic speech and sign language).

Students age range from 14 years to 19 years in age. The school are looking for candidates who can cope with students who will have:

-Random outbursts of aggression (biting, scratching, spitting)
-Difficulty in transitioning from one classroom to another
-Social emotional and mental health issues
-Development delay.
-As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be expected to support the students in small groups (2 - 3 students) or depending on the need of the child, one to one support.

The students will have a structured day and you will be expected to keep records of each activity, for each child to have a record of learning progress for the day. Written feedback on their behaviour is also compulsory. As an LSA, you'll be required to support your student either 1-2-1 or work in small groups (2 children to one LSA). The needs of the children vary and on some occasions; you may be asked to support another class if there is a staff shortage.


Ideal candidate:

-Ability to be flexible and adaptable.

-Ability to interact well with the children.

-Previous experience with Autistic children and challenging behaviours is essential.

-Restraint training is advantageous but not essential.



About the school:

The school has up to 300 pupils and cater for pupils aged 3 to 19. They cater for a wide range of complex needs; all levels of learning, communication, ASC, physical, medical and sensory impairment. They have a speech and a language team and department based at the school and as part of their continuous learning approach; they have classes at 3 schools within the Brent area to further supports their student's development.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
