Protocol Education are currently recruiting support assistants to work in a residential home for children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in Newcastle.

The Role:
This role involves caring for young people with a range of PMLD including severe Autism, Physical Disabilities, Hearing and Visual Impairment and challenging behaviour who are either permanent residents or those coming for a short break throughout the year. You will play an essential role in assisting with aspects of their daily life including personal care, feeding and engagement activities. A huge part of this role is about building positive, trusting relationships so all young people feel confident and secure in their home.

You will join and work closely with a fantastic and professional team who are experts in providing tailored and specific support for each young person.

Accepted Qualifications:
• Foundation Degree: Therapeutic Childcare
• Diploma or Degree in Social Work
• NVQ Level 4 Leadership and Management for Care Services
• NVQ Level 4 Health and Social Care (Children's Pathway)
• NVQ Level 3 Residential Childcare
• Foundation Degree in Children and Young People
• Foundation Degree in Children and Young People and their services
• Foundation Degree in Education and Children
• Foundation Degree in Therapeutic Childcare
• Degree in Child and Youth Studies
• Degree in Working with Children and Families

Essential:
• Must be aged 21 or over
• Must have one of the above qualifications
• Experience working with children and/or young people
• Good communication, both written and verbal
• Committed, calm and positive attitude
• Willingness to undertake further professional training

Desirable:
• Experience in a residential or special school setting that would be beneficial but not essential.
• Experience working with people with complex physical and sensory disabilities
• A good understanding of the needs of children and young people with disabilities
• Level 2 or above in British Sign Language (BSL)
• Experience of supporting people with intimate personal care tasks
• ICT literate
• Current DBS on Update Service

There are several roles due to an increased intake of students. Both full and part time positions available with a range of shift patterns to suit you including night shifts.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
