About Financial Rights Legal Centre
Financial Rights Legal Centre (Financial Rights) is a community based legal centre in Surry Hills specialising in financial services, particularly credit, banking, insurance and debt.

The role
We are seeking an enthusiastic Financial Counsellor for a full time 18-month contract with potential to renew. Part time options are available. Experience and commitment to consumer rights essential. In this role you will provide crucial information, financial counselling and referrals via the centre’s intake channels, advocating for consumers’ financial rights. The intake channels include the National Debt Helpline, the National Debt Helpline Website chat, Mob Strong Debt Help and the Caseworker line.

The Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a Financial Counsellor who embodies our values and is poised to drive our mission forward. The ideal candidate will:

  • Possess or be working towards accreditation as a financial counsellor with the Financial Counselling Association of NSW (FCAN)

  • Demonstrate a proven track record of providing financial counselling services

  • Exhibit a demonstrated ability to provide non-judgemental, quality service delivery to disadvantaged clients and clients from diverse backgrounds

  • Showcase a strong passion for social justice coupled with an aptitude for advocacy and awareness of client’s social context

  • Display excellent oral and written communication skills; and

  • Adhere to current NSW public health orders and requirements with COVID vaccination.
