Youth Development Coach - Risk-Response Bail Program (JOB-808507)

Location
Slacks Creek, Australia
Sector
Social Care
Salary
$53.43 to $55.85 per hour

We’re establishing a brand-new Risk-Response Bail Program at YFS, and this is your opportunity to be part of it from the beginning.

As a Youth Development Coach, you’ll work alongside young people on bail and their families, providing intensive, practical and community-based support. You’ll help young people navigate challenges, understand what is expected of them and build stronger connections with family, culture, education, employment and the services around them.

  • Make a real difference for young people at a critical point in their lives, helping them build on their strengths and make positive changes.
  • Get out into the community rather than spending every day behind a desk. You’ll work with young people where they are, including in their homes, schools, courts and community settings.
  • Be part of something new and help shape how YFS delivers this new program, alongside a team committed to practical, responsive and youth-centred support.

About the job

Role location:     Slacks Creek

Role type:            Permanent full-time

Pay range:           $105,909 – $110,705 a year / $53.43 - $55.85 an hour based on experience, with salary packaging exempt from Fringe Benefits Tax available.

This role requires a flexible approach to working hours. While work will generally be across Monday to Friday, there will be early starts, later finishes and occasional Saturday or Sunday work when required. Flexibility will work both ways, with the opportunity to take make-up time where appropriate.

In this role you will:

  • Build trusting relationships with young people and work alongside them to identify their strengths, risks, needs and goals, developing individualised plans that are realistic and achievable.
  • Communicate with stakeholders, families and young people to help them understand and meet their bail requirements.
  • Provide intensive outreach and practical support, which could include helping a young person attend appointments, navigate services, reconnect with education or employment, or address issues that may affect their ability to meet their bail conditions.
  • Work with families, kin and significant people in a young person’s life to strengthen their support networks and connections with family, culture and community.
  • Connect young people with the right supports and work collaboratively with Youth Justice, housing, health, education, alcohol and other drugs, disability, domestic and family violence, legal and cultural services.
  • Monitor changing circumstances and risks, adjust support when needed and help young people transition to longer-term services and supports.

About you

Aside from meeting the key capabilities outlined in the related role description available from the pathway below, you’ll be a great fit if:

  • You have experience working with young people with complex needs, particularly young people involved with youth justice, child protection or other statutory systems.
  • You’re someone who can build rapport with young people who may not immediately trust or engage with services, and you’re prepared to keep showing up and working alongside them.
  • You bring a trauma-informed, strengths-based and culturally safe approach and understand that behaviour is often only one part of a young person’s story.
  • You’re comfortable working independently in the community while also being an active part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
  • You can balance compassion with clear boundaries and are confident responding to risk, complexity and changing circumstances.
  • You’re practical and resourceful. You don’t just identify what a young person needs, you’re willing to help them take the next step.
  • You’re looking for a role where you can use your case management skills while spending meaningful time working directly with young people and families.
  • You have ability to work flexible hours to support young people's needs.
