This market leading company supplies, installs, and services a range of automated post-harvest machinery for the horticultural sector. Being a long-established family-owned kiwi business that has grown to cover New Zealand and Australia you will get the stability, brand, and product variety of big business combined with the family culture and tight knit team feel working in their Tauranga office.
A new Automation Team is being created as a national resource for this company’s machinery installation and service teams and for the company’s customers around New Zealand. This team already has a Technician and a Mechanical Engineer who will move into this team and likely will in time grow to include another Technician and a Documentation Lead as your direct reports.
Part of this company’s well-presented office is being re-purposed specifically for the Automation Team where all the pre-commissioning will be done.
You will become the Automation lead for the company, championing all thing’s automation. The company’s machinery is automated electro-mechanical machinery and the term automation for them covers things like PLC’s, Hydraulics, and Pneumatics.
Internal Training: A real focus will be on increasing the automation capacity and troubleshooting ability within the company, particularly with the Installation & Service Technicians. You will identify where the existing teams are at, where the knowledge gaps are, then develop an Automation Training Program to suit for both existing staff and as part of the on-boarding process for new staff.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support: The Technicians and Regional Managers will become more equipped to address automation issues, with these escalating up to the automation team if they remain unresolved. You will then work with your team to resolve the issues remotely, with one of your Technicians, and if all else fails, go to a site yourself and resolve issues.
The idea is for the Automation Team to be roving, going to hot-spots, dealing with longer term issues, helping with installations, if not doing them autonomously.
Machinery Safety: there is a lot of retrofitting required for machinery safety, you will be leading this, including assessment, review, and remediation activities through the use of third-party experts and internal staff.Qualifications
- Tertiary and or Trade Qualification in electrical engineering with strong ability in mechanical engineering.
- Electrician with Full EWRB Registration
- PLC design, coding, and diagnostics
- 5 years + service experience in electrical and engineering fields
- Evidence of being a collaborative leader
- Sound experience managing supplier relationships

- Proficient with CAD design and preferably with Solidworks
- Experienced with regular customer contact and relationship building
